Ouch, the muscles are a little sore this afternoon. Just got up from a two hour nap. You just have to sleep a little more after you bike 67 miles in 86 degree, full sunshine for 6 and a half hours.
Yes, yes. The day has come and gone. I was getting nervous since my regular work out partner had some obligations stand in the way of riding with me the full 67 mile route. She had to take the 36 miles instead which was a completely different route all together. She was able to finish her ride in four hours. Where was I while she was finishing? I was on mile 38 trying to make it up hill (so it seemed) in a head wind towards Saugatuck. I would love to share how many corn and bean fields I passed on the way, but I think I lost count after 50 something! lol.
The two main rest stops were a blessing! Who would have ever thought that a pancake breakfast was such a good idea when you are on a bike tour? I thought it was somewhat overkill, but what an energy boost it was! Oh, the watermelon never tasted so cold and sweet!
So, who did I travel with? My friend Ernie. He was such a blessing. Poor guy...I don't think he ever thought he would be on a bike for so long. He was such a trooper! He hung in there the whole way and now has bragging rights that he traveled 67 miles on a mountain bike. Speaking of which, next year I am swapping out to a better bike. Definitely something more suitable for racing or long distances.
Can I just say, I saw some of the coolest cycling shirts? Cat in the Hat. Fruit Loops. Tye Dyed. Oscar the Grouch.....I'm thinking that I am going to look for a cool shirt too.
So thank you to Ernie, thank you to Lisa and thank you for all the support from you. Would I do it again? Heck yeah, but next year I am shooting for the full 100 miles.
What's on the goal list now? Training for two 5k races in September. Wish me luck.
